TISD Holds International Conference on Law Enforcement Cooperation International Conference on Law Enforcement Cooperation was held on October 16-17, 2008 in Washington D.C. with attendees from 15 different countries and 2 international organizations. The TISD, the Center for Technology, Security and Public Policy (CTSP) at Virginia-Tech University, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), initiated a Drug Trafficking and Nuclear Materials Smuggling Research Project that aimed to study the current flow of drugs and nuclear materials across borders to help preventing future crimes of this type in Eurasia. |

Academicians and practitioners from around the globe met in Washington, DC last week to explore methods of involving communities in one of the world’s most pressing issues: the fight against terrorism. The workshop was organized by PhD candidate Siddik Ekici (Turkey) and Consultant Lindita Caci (Albania), and took place on September 26 and 27, 2008 at the Washington Marriot Hotel. Improving Law-Enforcement Response to Victims of Crime in Turkey A workshop on improving law-enforcement techniques to address the needs of victims of crime was held on October 2 by the Turkish Institute for Security and Democracy together with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). More than 30 participants attended the event, including the IACP top chiefs and staff, Turkish National Police officers who are currently pursuing PhD degrees in the U.S. universities, and members of the Turkish Institute for Security and Democracy (TISD).
