TISD Holds International Conference on Law Enforcement Cooperation

International Conference on Law Enforcement Cooperation was held on October 16-17, 2008 in Washington D.C. with attendees from 15 different countries and 2 international organizations.

The TISD, the Center for Technology, Security and Public Policy (CTSP) at Virginia-Tech University, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), initiated a Drug Trafficking and Nuclear Materials Smuggling Research Project that aimed to study the current flow of drugs and nuclear materials across borders to help preventing future crimes of this type in Eurasia.

The NATO-TISD Advanced Research Workshop was Organized

Academicians and practitioners from around the globe met in Washington, DC last week to explore methods of involving communities in one of the world’s most pressing issues: the fight against terrorism.
The workshop was organized by PhD candidate Siddik Ekici (Turkey) and Consultant Lindita Caci (Albania), and took place on September 26 and 27, 2008 at the Washington Marriot Hotel. NATO was the main sponsor, with the Turkish National Police, the Turkish Institute for Security and Democracy (TISD), and the University of North Texas serving as co-sponsors.

A Lesson About Democracy and Global Security From Turkey

What has the most recent terrorist attack in istanbul (july 27, 2008) to do with democracy and global security?

TISD-IACP Workshop
Improving Law-Enforcement Response to Victims of Crime in Turkey

A workshop on improving law-enforcement techniques to address the needs of victims of crime was held on October 2 by the Turkish Institute for Security and Democracy together with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

More than 30 participants attended the event, including the IACP top chiefs and staff, Turkish National Police officers who are currently pursuing PhD degrees in the U.S. universities, and members of the Turkish Institute for Security and Democracy (TISD).

TIPS

The Turkish Institute for Police Studies (TIPS) has been functionally housed at the University of North Texas for over six years. The aim of TIPS is to combine the practical experience of the Turkish National Police in policing areas (especially terrorism, organized crime, narcotics, administration, intelligence, and investigation) with the academic and theoretical foundation represented by masters and doctoral education in the United State universities. Its ultimate goal is to explore new practical and functional approaches to the global crime problem by using its members’ extensive experience throughout their academic journey as professionals.

Terrorism Research Center

The Center for International Research on Terrorism (CIRT) was established with an agreement between University of Cincinnati and theTurkish National Police Organization in 2006. The CIRT is an independent, non-profit organization which is not only devoted to scholarly research and public education on terrorism affairs but also dedicated to prevent, or at least minimize, the future terrorist attacks via thirty-year long counter-terrorism experience of Turkish National Police.
