On the evening of July 27, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were detonated in Menderes Caddesi, a street in the Istanbul working class neighbourhood of Gungoren. On July 28 the death toll stood at 17, all of them civilians.

Georgetown/TISD Police Leadership Training Program

Georgetown University’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) and TISD recently cooperated to organize and carry out the week-long Police Leadership Training Program in and around Washington, DC.  Thirty Masters and PhD students from universities across the United States, all of them Turkish National Police and TISD members, attended lectures on timely law enforcement topics and participated in a number of site visits.

Turkish Luncheon at the IACP

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and TISD organized a Turkish Luncheon at IACP headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday, July 16.  More than seventy IACP and TISD members participated in the event, enjoying a wide variety of Turkish foods.

Police Leadership Training Program 

 

TISD and Georgetown University Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) are launching a one-week ‘Police Leadership Training Program’ for police chiefs. The program will take place both in TISD Center and Georgetown University’s main campus between July 28 and August 1. The program includes academic sessions, meetings and site visits in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.

The CIED is a part of Georgetown University designed for executive education and technical training programs such as business, law and diplomacy, public administration and public policy since 1981. The Center serves people and organizations all over the world. Georgetown University faculty and academic departments, as well as outside policymakers, practitioners, partner institutions and talented alumni bring the specific knowledge needed for each short and long- term program of the CIED.

At the end of the program there will be an awards ceremony on Georgetown University’s main campus.

TIPS

The Turkish Institute for Police Studies (TIPS) has been functionally housed at the University of North Texas for over six years. The aim of TIPS is to combine the practical experience of the Turkish National Police in policing areas (especially terrorism, organized crime, narcotics, administration, intelligence, and investigation) with the academic and theoretical foundation represented by masters and doctoral education in the United State universities. Its ultimate goal is to explore new practical and functional approaches to the global crime problem by using its members’ extensive experience throughout their academic journey as professionals.

Terrorism Research Center

The Center for International Research on Terrorism (CIRT) was established with an agreement between University of Cincinnati and theTurkish National Police Organization in 2006. The CIRT is an independent, non-profit organization which is not only devoted to scholarly research and public education on terrorism affairs but also dedicated to prevent, or at least minimize, the future terrorist attacks via thirty-year long counter-terrorism experience of Turkish National Police.
